Trixbox can be downloaded in two forms:

An iso file:
This file is burned on a CD and installed on a hard drive after the computer power up.
You will need a dedicated computer because the installation will erase all the information on the hard drive!

A Vmware file:
This file can be read with a Vmware player or server.
With Vmware you have the advantage to use trixbox on your Desktop and thus you don't need another computer. This is particularly interesting for test purposes.

The Vmware players and servers are free. The player can run virtual machines but not create them.
Vmware download page.

In both installation types, the installation is automated and only requires a little user input.

In our tutorial, we will use the trixbox Vmware image and read it with the Vmware player. The goal is to install trixbox and create three phone numbers called "extensions".
If you choose the CD install, you will be first asked some usual questions such as the time zone you are in or the type of keyboard you are using. Once the questions answered, you can proceed with theand then you can follow the tutorial below.

Start trixbox with the Vmware player:
The CentOS Linux is starting, the trixbox services are then launched.

You can also choose to request a dynamic IP address instead, even though this is not recommended for a server.
